Frank Ghery
Frank Gehry was born on 28th, February of 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is well-known for his unique way of design and his uses of postmodern styles.Frank Gehry has built numerous buildings that have become ‘world-renowned tourist attraction’. Since 1960s, he is among the most acclaimed architects of the 20th century.
After he moved to Los Angeles in his childhood, he realized that there are much more job opportunities in college, so he started his first education from the University of Southern California of Architecture and Harvard University.After a while, he later dropped out of the Harvard and divorced his wife, with whom he had two daughters. In 1975, Gehry married Berta Isabel Aguilera, and had two more children.
After leaving Harvard, he has launched his first furniture brand named “Easy Edges” started from 1969 till 1973. However after a while he realized that he is more interested in buildings than furniture, so he made his first building, which is a home for his family. And after all those experiences he went through, that’s when he actually started his career as an architect.
Frank Gehry was very creative from a young age and very interested in buildings. He has built imaginary homes and cities with items found in his grandfather’s hardware store. Frank Gehry’s interest in unconventional building materials might have effected to his way of designs right now and his characteristics in his architectural work.
Gehry's Design
Frank Gehry is known for his unique way of designs and uses of bold, postmodern shapes and unusual fabrications. As you can see from the images above, he has various techniques in design for each buildings. Especially if you look at the second picture, you can easily notice that he has very unique styles of designing. And it is the reason why he is one of the most effective architects in the world becuase he creates new trends.
As Frank Gehry is one of the most effective architects in the world, he has built many different kinds of buildings. Examples of his most well-known designs would be the “Walt Disney Concert Hall” in Los Angeles and the “Guggenheim Musem” in Bilbao.
The first image shown above is the "Walt Disney Concert Hall" which is located in Los Angeles and well-known for one of the famous
buildings in the world. As shown above, it has very unique shapes and textures; and when it gets dark, there is some special light for this building which makes it look much cooler and modern.If you look at the second image which is called "Guggenheim Museum" which is located in Bilbao, I felt like these two buildings have very similar moods because although these two buildings are formed in each different shapes, I noticed that these still share very similar styles. From looking at both of these buildings, I realized he has his typical post-modern styles in designs that anyone could easily notice, and I think it's the reason why he makes new trends..
